In this article, we are going to see some of the best and popular techniques and software to Monitor Chromebook activity. These techniques can be used to see the activity of the students and children and keep them away from the potentially harmful content of the internet.
We will see Omnito Chromebook management for teachers, NxFilter and Go Guardian software in this article.
Omnito Chromebook management for teachers:
To start with, log in using the google classroom accounts.
In the home page, the classes are loaded straight from google classroom from the left-hand side. Click on the classroom that you want to monitor. Now you will see all the students in the classroom show up.
We will see that when a student opens Chrome browser in the Chromebook, the information flows into the Omnito dashboard.
As we browse new pages and open a new tab, the information in the dashboard will be updated in real time. The active tab in the Chromebook is indicated with a green highlight in Omnito.
If we change the tab from tab we can see that the highlight is also updated. One way Omnito helps you manage your classroom is by giving you the ability to close any tab in any Chrome device in your room.
Click on the no button on the Omnito dashboard to close the corresponding tab in Chromebook. The Chromebook will show a pop-up notification indicating that the tab was closed by a teacher.
Another powerful feature that Omnito offers is the ability to push out URLs to the every student Chromebooks. To do that, click on the Push URL button and enter the URL that needs to be pushed. This will push the URL to every device in the class.
We can also lock the screen using the lock screen feature.
Click on the lock screen to disable the lock screen on al the Chrome devices. This disables the student’s ability to open new tabs and to browse to new URL.
When the students are ready to resume the operation, just click on the unlock screen button.
To be able to see exactly what the student is seeing, click on the camera icon right in the student’s name. This will pop up the screenshot of the student’s screen. The screenshot is updated as the display of the student undergoes changes.
This feature can be used to see what the student is doing in real time. It can also be used to present single student screen to the entire classroom. This is a brief overview of some of the features of the Omnito dashboard.

The first thing that you will see when you log in is the dashboard.
It is a great place to get an overview of what is going on with all the Chromebook you are concerned with.
We can see top sites, top videos and even filter the results by your OUs.
We import the OUs straight from the google admin console so the setting up process is easy.
In the search bar, you can enter a search term, specific student’s name and get to the top sites the student visits, top videos, extensions and installed programs. This information can also be exported into an overview report.
We can also determine what the students can and can not do in their Chromebooks. We can do that by filtering. Filtering is one the newest features of the admin 2.0 features. Filtering in admin 2.0 is based on policies.
With policies, we can set up different filtering settings based on if the chrome book is on or off the campus.
By OU, and based on what time of the day, you can get as detailed as you need.
We know that one of the most inappropriate content in youtube is in the comment section and not the video itself. So we can age restrict, block comments, block sidebars and even block specific categories of videos.
The internet is full of good and bad stuff and what we mainly need is the good of both worlds. Go Guardian makes sense of the grey area in between using an AI-based learning platform called smart alerts.
The first thing we notice is the activity feed called alerts. We can trigger actions based on the type of activity. We can instantly block the inappropriate content or even send the student a message based on the content of the specific page.
It is based on the content and not the URL, it works with anything from google docs, facebook chat, and Twitter.
We also get the feature of theft recovery. If we put a device in theft recovery, we will see information such as device serial number. The last user to log into it, a map of the location, and screenshots to the usage. Tracking a new device is easy, just click on track a new device, enter a serial number and you can start tracking.
